Austrian born George Borgfeldt came to America in the 1850s. He opened a commission business in New York in the mid 1860s and “Nifty Play Toys” was his trademark. Nifty produced original figures made of hollowcast slush lead with the most recognisable being the circus figures

This is the Nifty Circus figure called Duke the clown wearing white suit with black and yellow detailing and a green ruff and hat. He is crawling in all fours and has a brown dog called Dodo wearing a gold ruff riding on his back. Measures 6.5 cms / just over 2.5 inches wide
