Based on Philip Francis Nowlan's original novel Armageddon 2419 AD, William Anthony “Buck” Rogers was the first American newspaper comic strip based on science fiction. It went on to run as a radio series from 1932-47 and then became a film in 1939. The story surrounds a 20th century pilot named Buck Rogers and his young friend Buddy Wade who awake from 500 years in suspended animation to find that the world has been taken over by the outlaw army of invaders led by Killer Kane and his girlfriend assistant Princess Ardala. Aided by his newly found space companion Wilma Deering and his mentor, the brilliant scientist Dr. Huer, Buck Rogers defeats the invaders and frees America.
In 1935-6, a line of six Buck Rogers painted lead metal toy soldier figures were made by Britains under licence from John Dille Co (the newspaper company in the USA who were copyright holders of the Buck Rogers name). They were made for one year only and were available to buy in Woolworth stores in the USA and also as premium offers in return for collecting Cream of Wheat tokens from the cereal packets and sending into John Dille newspapers.
The set comprised (left to right): Wilma Deering, Buck Rogers, Killer Kane, Ardala, Dr. Huer and a Mekkano Man Robot, which is the most scarce. This figure was named Twiki in the 1979 film remake. Each is fully painted with moveable arm or arms. On the bottom of each of these are the names of each character and words “Made in England J. Dille Co”. This is the very rare complete original set
All items in very good original condition with working arms, guns etc all intact. There are some small areas of paint loss, mainly to Killer Kane. Dr Huer’s right arm, holding the torch, is loose and Ardala’s raised hand repaired
Delivery & returns
Postage and packing
Postage and packing is not included in the prices quoted and Lilliput World will always pack securely and send by the buyer’s choice of delivery service at your cost.
For those of you who prefer to click straight through and pay, we have given a set of postage options based on value and destination area. By definition, these have to be a best guess as the permutations of sizes, weights and values for sale on this site are huge.
So, if you prefer to decide what you want to buy and then contact us with details of your preferred shipment method and destination, we will be happy to give you a specific quote and then issue your Paypal invoice. The cost quoted will be the actual cost of postage, including any insurance, plus a small amount to cover the packing materials used.
If the buyer asks for the goods to be sent without insurance, then Lilliput World will only be responsible for the value that can be reclaimed as standard from the chosen carrier.
If you do complete the sale automatically and the system charges you excessive postage, this will be refunded to you via Paypal once the correct postage is known. Likewise, we cannot be held to deliver goods to international destinations where the automatic postage supplied is significantly less than the actail cost. We will then contact you and discuss the options and take additional payment as required.
