The WLHB was founded in 1930 by Mary (Mollie) Bagot-Stack (1883-1935) and its aim was to provide health and fitness classes for all women. The organisation was an immediate success and by 1939 the League had its largest membership of over 166,000. Their motto was 'Movement is Life'
