The Air Raid Precaution Act of 1937 presented a statutory duty on local authorities to provide shelter and anti-gas precautions for their community. The policy allowed for protection by personal gas masks and domestic air raid shelters, most commonly Anderson shelters. In addition, local government were also responsible for siren warnings, first aid and rescue services, firefighting, gas decontamination and enforcement of blackout regulations by ARP wardens and civil police.

Here are six rare figures from the Taylor & Barrett Decontamination Unit all wearing black decontamination protective suits with white gas masks and gloves. Two are holding the brush in their right hand with buckets at their feet, one has a spade, one a broom, one has a cupped hand to hold a hose and the last holds a rare gas detector probe. There is also an original hose with nozzles at each end

figures all in very good original condition with only minor paint loss. The figure with the cupped hand has had glue applied to his hand in the past to secure the hose.
