a rare early boxed Taylor & Barrett Zoo Series Chimpanzees Tea Party set comprising: cream table with brown legs, three matching brown chairs, three seated chimpanzees in correct different poses and a standing keeper. All contained in original two part box with black and white illustrated label that wraps around the lid end.
The first chimpanzees’ tea party was held at London Zoo in Regents Park in 1926, two years after the opening of Monkey Hill. They were put on almost daily during the summer until they were discontinued in 1972.The chimps’ tea parties were the inspiration for the PG Tips television advertisements, which began in 1956.
